Lake tahoe.. the gambling side?

Travel Info
does anyone know of a good hotel in october to visit in lake tahoe. the side that you are still able to gamble on? Im trying to find a october vacation destination thats drivable from Portland, or. any ideas would help!

Travel Tips
You can stay on either side as the gambling occurs right up to the edge of the state line. Casinos are avialable on both the north and south shores of Lake Tahoe at the stateline.

If you have to go through Sacramento on your way, take I-80 to the north shore or I-50 to the south. BTW, you can check for deals at the casino hotels, but you'll find better hotel rates a tad east on I-80 in Reno (better gambling deals, too).

Others
There are so many that it's really hard to say. I think much of the time, you're best off to stay in one of the casino's, as they offer decent pricing in competition with each other...Also, October is the perfect time to go, since it's past the summer tourist season, and before the winter season.

John Asquaga's Nugget usually has the cheapest prime rib buffet, so we usually stop in there for dinner when we're visiting.

If I were in your shoes, I'd check the Best Western, Choice Hotels and Motel 6 websites, along with those of the casinos. Look for locations in Tahoe City or "Stateline". Tahoe City actually spans the border between Nevada and California, so the hotels are on both sides of the border.

Here's a link to the Reno-Tahoe Area Visitor's Bureau. This will also give you a ton of locations to check out.

P.S.
If you have extra time on your hands, go over the Sierras (Highway 50 will take you north, or you can go over the southern route on highway 89) to the town of Genoa. It is the first settlement in Nevada, and still has the oldest thirst parlor in Nevada. Rumor has it that the old safe is full of visitors' undergarments, including that of Ann Margaret, who was there while filming a movie...you can have a peak, if you bring one of your own as a deposit. It's not the world's biggest tourist stop, but it's pretty fun to have a drink in a real cowboy bar! There's also a great bakery in town where you can get a nice lunch and bring home dessert!
