Is portland, oregon worth living in? |
Travel Info i am from southern california. i am considering portland, because it is much cheaper to live there, they have good public transportation, it is healthy, gay friendly, liberal, artistic, etc. i don't know if i could adapt to rainy, cloudy weather, or if there are a lot of things to do there. i visited portland last year, but it was in the summer, and it was hot every day. Travel Tips Hi, Portland is great...they do have quite a bit of rain, but during the summer and fall it is super nice. It's a very health conscious place to live as well. I go there a lot as my best friend lives there. There are a million things to do there, and a trip to the coast isn't too far either. :) Others 5% Property taxes in Portland. A 200k home is 10k/year in taxes A multi million dollar home in CA might not have those taxes. About as much as in California. I'm in California now. I'd send people I really dislike here. That's why I'm leaving. Ha. yea, it may be hot in the summer but it don't have any humitity. Y E S!!!! Portland can be beautiful, and I hear that people really like living there. But, coming from SoCal, you are going to have a huge, depressing adjustment to the dismal, foggy, cloudy, rainy mess that is Oregon weather. If you can ignore the weather completely, you will probably be fine. (But, I wouldn't move there for any amount of money, since it's all about weather to me.) I don't live there any more but the Portland area is a great place to live if you like the outdoors. True it rains a lot but the city has adapted to that. There is lots to do inside on rainy days but on clear days, wow, it doesn't get a whole lot better than the parkway of the Columbia River. You will never be able to see it all! It has some of the best scenery in the US! Just a thought, if you are really considering it because of cost of living, move in across the river in one of the newer communities on the Washington side. Then you can drive in, use the public transportation in the free zone, shop on the Oregon side and pay no sales tax and live on the Washington side and pay no income tax! The best of both worlds. Best of luck! |
