Well hello. I am live in Portland. I have lived here for 5 years. It is a fun little town. There are deff good and bad parts. Munjoy hill and Kennedy park are places to try and avoid at night or to live there. There are some nice parts for sure. Portland is a pretty easy going town. There is an active Frisbee league and plenty of things to do. I think the town has plenty of jobs, just not the highest paying. Plenty of schools, good colleges like USM which is a good price for a Maine resident. Prices are OK, rent will kill you and if you are ready to deal with the cold you have come to the right place. If you are looking for a good time at night the "Old Port" it where its at.
