Travel Info neighborhood where you can pretty much walk to where you need to go, good nature environs, etc.? Travel Tips Anywhere by campus has everything you need in terms of stores etc.. but not much nature. Also downtown gives you access to everything you need as it is right on the bus line. In Springfield (right next to Eugene) there are always places to rent near Island Park. It is a great neigborhood!! Others Ah....I lived there for 25 years and my home of record is still in Eugene. It sounds like to me that you want to live in South Eugene. The area just south of the campus is good (U of O) and you can follow amazon parkway to the south and find many places to live there, on or just off Amazon Parkway Rd. There are several hiking trails within that vicinity, a butte, an old cemetary with a lot of masonic influence. There is also a theater (live), a park (where they do shakespeare in the park), a public pool, nearby high school, close to campus, Museum of Natural History, Art Museum, (both on campus), at least two art galleries, and several good restaurants, including Thai, Italian, and Indian cuisine. The area is littered with local markets and convenience stores along the main strip. (Amazon Parkway) There are large groceries stores within a five minute drive at 18th and at 30th as well as the asian grocery store, and natural foods store within ten minutes over on Willamette. There is also banking on Willamette, bowling, a sushi restaurant (but the better ones are downtown), and the local baseball stadium. The local bus system, which is very good albeit a little expensive can take you everywhere you need to go. There are several pickup locations within that area, and at least three different bus routes traveling through the area. There is a second butte and another large park with hiking trails if you travel slightly north and east, in the neighborhood directly south and directly east of campus. It's about 20 minutes to walk from the center of the Amazon parkway area. You can also go to the North side of the campus and there are hiking trails along both the north and south sides of the Willimatte river. This is a longer walk from the area though. The value of the area hasn't escaped the local Oregonians there and it has become a pricey place to live. While it has NOT been developed into an area of overblown $400k houses, the homes that are there are pricey. There is very little new housing development and so it's almost a foregone conclusion you will be buying an already existing home, or renting. There is a lot of rental homes available in that area. Hope that helps. Glenwood.... You can buy a trailer right next door to the Lane County Dump... actually I live in West Eugene, I would say the "Ferry Street Bridge Area" is your best choice.... Nice shopping, food, golf, bus routes, bike paths,(South Eugene) where all the Nasty Liberals piss and moan if you accidently step on the grass and kill an ant. Just know you are restricted to one and only one electric company, EWEB, and they charge up the ying yang for their service....wow, i ilived in southern california and the elec/water was cheaper for the same sized place. Whatever you do stay out of Albany, what a PIT! And it stinks too! |
