I am moving to Portland. Should I live in Vancouver, WA? |
Travel Info I am moving to be closer to my son. I am still looking for jobs, but I understand that there is no sales tax in one of the states and no state income tax in the other. Is this right? Which is which? Travel Tips I live in Portland's west side and before moving here I had the same dilemma. I am very grateful that I chose this side of the river though, Less traffic problems, no sales tax, more activities, closer to "what's going on" and all of that is worth more to me than the $70 or $80 per month in housing/tax costs I pay here on the Oregon side. Follow your heart dude!! After all........It is for your son and being close to him is far more valuable than anything you could worry about on one side of the river or the other!! Good luck. Others Washington has no state income tax, but has a sales tax and higher gas tax. Oregon has no sales tax, but high property taxes, a state income tax, and Multnomah County (Portland) has income tax as well. Houses in Vancouver are cheaper, but if you work in Portland, there are only 2 bridges across the river and the traffic on them is TERRIBLE at rush hour. Commuting from Vancouver is a huge pain. Vancouver I never cared for. I prefer Portlands westside and Vancouver is really not that much cheaper then living in Portland. |
