Travel Tips
Portland and the surrounding areas are flooding with people moving here from other states as well as California. I'm a NW native and it's getting so crowded here it's loosing it's natural beauty due to all the building...it breaks my heart but I know full well why people are moving here.....it's beautiful..

Portland's population is around the 600,000 range. I would say that Portland's population steadily goes up around 3-5% each year. So not a ton of people move there like the rumors say. Even though many rumors about Californians moving up to Portland are around this is not completely true. Some do, but I think you have chosen a wise decision on Portland and it seems like it would be perfect for you! Hope this helps!
EVERYONE is moving to the northwest. Not just Californians. Oregon people just notice the Californians more because of their long standing grudge against them. I know plenty of people moving from Arizona to the NW. And if I'm wrong and there are alot of Californians... you're on the west coast, naturally people are going to migrate up and down the coast.

You shouldn't feel overwhelmed about people moving to Portland. When I went for a really long vacation in Hawaii, I got to know a lot of real Hawaiians that were sad because not only had their land been taken from them but now everyone is moving there. The Hawaiians are slowly moving away from their homeland. And guess what, a lot of the people that had moved there were from the northwest because they wanted a slice of paradise to thaw out in. So that should put things in perspective.

Can you blame people for moving to Portland? It's cheaper to live in Portland, quieter, green, PSU, Reed... the list is endless.

Sounds like you need to live someplace that people don't want to live. Try one of the really small non-college towns towards the mountains. Like Marion, well it's not called that anymore. That's your best bet.
Couple of things...

Immigration is a way of life, always has been, always will. Even the "native Americans" only came over 12,000 years ago from ASIA.

Portland is the last affordable city on the west coast, despite the moaning about housing costs. Even Seattle is significantly more and the same house in the Bay Area or Southern Cal can easily be twice as much than in Oregon if not much more. .

People have never stopped migrating to the west coast since this country was founded. So unless your family came out on THE OREGON TRAIL, then quit complaining.

Naturrally many people end up in Portland. Actually, many migrate first to California then either head north to OR and WA or east to AZ an NV.

There are almost 4 million people in Oregon, but there are nearly FORTY million in California. Of course you're going to feel squeezed.

I'm a 4th generation San Diegan--- you think Portland has grown?? You have absolutely no idea what it's like to see development pop up overnight and run rampant for years and years. And we used to ***** and complain about all the East Coasters and midWesterners that were moving there. And trust me, I've met my share of Oregonians who had moved to San Diego.

The west isn't the only part of the country that is experiencing a lot of migration. The south and southwest have been exploding as well.

You could live in the Northeast or Midwest where people are ACTUALLY LEAVING, or you could stick it out here for a while longer when eventually migration will start trending back to the eastern seaboard because the west has gotten too crowded.

Unless you're running the family farm or the family business, you should really think about getting out of Dodge and try living somewhere else. Most successful, motivated people do.

Head over to the Bethany/Rock Creek area north of Beaverton where many of the Intel employee live. You could probably count the amount of Oregon natives there on one hand. This is arguably the highest concentration of educated people in all of pdx.
Southern California transplant now in Portland.
