What hotel or neighborhood do you recommend staying in while visiting Portland, OR for a few days? |
Travel Info My friend and I will be visiting Portland, OR for a few days to relax, sightsee and shop. Recommendations on where to stay (for example, moderately priced hotels or popular neighborhoods) are appreciated! Travel Tips check out the Portland Monthly Magazine's Website. the address is: http://www.portlandmonthlymag.com... it's our local magazine that will give you the inside info on what's around. You may also check out Oregonlive.com for various information regarding the area and news. If you're just here to shop and wander you may prefer staying downtown so you could easily travel by foot, streetcar, or MAX. If you venture to the Eastside of the River Portland area(where the majority of portland resides) you will either need a car or commuting info. Trimet.org is the website to plan trips around town. It's easy. have fun! Others You probably want to stay downtown or stay somewhere on the light rail line and MAX it into downtown - MAX actually goes out to the airport too. NW PDX is a trendy area but there aren't any hotels in that area - a few B&B's - oh wait, there is a Holiday Inn Express on the edge of the NW area. It's in a good area but it would be a hike to catch the street car or light rail IF you don't have a car. Downtown you might look at the Four Points - which is a lower priced line of the Hilton. It's in a good area, right on the water and off MAX and *usually* reasonably priced. If you're looking for really trendy, nightlife kind of place, the Juniper Hotel in NE is for you. There is a nightclub in the restaurant and it's very popular. The rooms are kind of sparse but cheap and retro. Not the greatest area of town but not the worst. If you're coming during Rose Festival time though, everything downtown will be expensive so you may want to stay further out. Ramanda Hotel is near the Lloyd Center and Max train. Double Tree Hotel is located in SW Portland very near downtown. Stay away from the hotel chains. One Ramada looks like the next. Instead of taking the McDonald's method, experience something unique: inn @ northrup station -- Boutique hotel with modern decor, rooftop deck, and all-suite rooms with kitchens. You can enjoy the art of the Pearl District and the restaurants and coffee shops on the Nob. Take a look at their Web site: http://www.northrupstation.com/... Great access to the transit system; good neighborhood; near downtown. You won't regret it. When I stay in Portland, I stay at the Inn @ Northrup Station. |
