I'm 17 and I'm going to Portland, OR for a few days. Can minors stay at hotels by themselves? |
Travel Info If they can, do they need like parental consent or something? Travel Tips Most hotels/motels normally require that you are 18 years old to stay. Almost every big name hotel will check your ID. Many less expensive motels such as Motel 6, Budget Inn, Super 8, etc. will not even look at your age unless you are 1.) acting like an idiot 2.) acting in a suspicious manner or 3.) you are a cash paying customer. If you make a reservation ahead of time it is less likely that you will be asked for ID. Give a credit card upon checking in - even if it is an ATM/Visa. If you pay cash you will be asked for ID which will usually be looked at carefully and typically an additional cash deposit will be required to ensure you don't destroy the room. Provided the room is in good condition upon check out you will receive the deposit back. Source(s): I used to work for a hotel Other Travel Tips I believe you have to be 18 to get a room... Your best bet is going to be to call a few hotels/motels and ask. Or have a parent call and ask and make the arrangements for you. My daughter used to travel alone a lot for school activities when she was 16 and 17 and rented rooms herself, on a grandparents credit card, but that was 7-8 years ago, and on some other answers, people have indicated a policy and/or law change, so I honestly do not know. |
