Would appreciate any and all information about living in Ashland, Oregon-average rental costs, cost of homes,? |
Travel Info what the city feels like, how large is the population, weather, anything and everything that would give an image of what it would be like to live there. Pros and cons, etc. Travel Tips Ashland is a rather liberal small College town, with a population around 25,000. Southern Oregon University is well known for it's liberal arts program, and graduate programs in Education. Ashland's Oregon Shakespearian Festival is renowned and runs from February through October, and has made Ashland a tourist destination. There is also skiing relatively nearby. In recent years, Ashland has attracted a lot of retirees, esp. from California, which has raised the price of housing significantly, as well as the economic baseline. It is a quiet town, somewhat genteel, picturesque, and has some great parks. The primary employment is the University and tourism, and of course the supporting occupations. You can go here to find out about the average weather: http://www.wunderground.com/us/or/ashlan... You can find information on housing costs here: http://www.ashlandchamber.com/page.asp?n... Sorry my information is not more detailed or personal, it's on the opposite end of Oregon than what I am most familiar with, so I could just share what I know, having only been there a handful of times myself. (Other than the drives through it on I-5). Source(s): Native Oregonian Other Travel Tips Glad to see you might consider this area in addition to either Eugene or Portland. So did you give me 10 points for best answer before? Hm, I gave you some great ideas the last time when I suggested Ashland/Medford to you. It is a friendly town, easy to get around, if you are into natural foods, the Ashland Coop is the place to go to find resources for housing, and things to do as a single. Take a trip there, you will probably like it very much! Ashland Oregon is located on I-5 about 15 miles north of the California Border. It sits at the base of Mt. Ashland which has a city owned ski resort. The population is around 15,000 people, not counting the students at Southern Oregon University which is located in the center of town. Ashland also has a Shakespeare Theater that draws people from all over the world to watch plays during the summer, which makes motel rooms hard to find during the summer. Ashland housing start around $500,000.00 and go up. It is some of the most expensive housing in Oregon. There isn't any low income housing. The rest of Jackson County residents consider Ashland residents to be trendy, berkinstock wearing, new age believers not quite in touch with real life. |
