What do you think of Portland Oregon?

Travel Tips
Portland is a cool place to visit, but I wouldn't wanna live there. It is great for the arts, and music scene. It's a nightmare to drive around in because there are alot of bridges and one way streets. You had better know a local to help you get around from one part of town to another. There is a large "alt" community there, the food is great, but if you're a conservative with the opinion that your free speech rights exist, you've got another thing coming. Lots of outlying burbs with their own little niche places to explore and they also have some seriously great festivals that are not widely publicised. Plan ahead, you'll have a great visit! and no, I don't live there, but have spent some time in the town.

Some people really like it.

I grew up in Oregon and got out of that state and as far away as possible without leaving the country as soon as I got out of high school.
I'm moving to Portland in a few months. It is the best city I have ever visited.

It's the #1 vegetarian city in the US, and it is a huge area for open source and Linux. (Linus Torvalds is there.)

Their mass transit is also excellent.
It is pretty cool. There are lots of things to do and lots of places to go shopping. I have found that it isn't very kid oriented and not always safe for teens/tweens to just wander around on their own. It is also expensive. There is little to do without spending even a little bit of money.
I love it. I moved here from Boise, Idaho and it was the best decision of my life so far.
I love big cities and this is one thats big enough to get lost in, yet still affordable. It's a well planned and well laid out city, only about an hour from the coast and Mt. Hood, and Washington is right across the river. All sorts of people to be found inside, from the rednecks and country bumpkins to the south and west, the yuppies in the northwest, the hippies in the southeast, and everyone else inbetween.

Heres a site thats a low/no cash guide to Portland:

Even if you never want to live here, It's a city that's worth checking out.
Have lived in Portland for a year and a half.
I love it. I currently live is Seattle (also a nice city) but am seriously considering relocating.
