What are some of the more conservative areas of Oregon? |
Travel Info I understand how liberal the west coast is, but I'll be bringing my midwestern grounded values with me and was wondering where the more conservative/traditional towns are located around Portland. Travel Tips Portland metro, Corvallis, and Eugene are the hotbeds of liberalism in Oregon. That part of the state population that has accepted reality and embraces tried-and-true, traditional values lives elsewhere, mostly east of the Cascades. Others I KNOW!! I live in Oregon and haven't found ANY yet. :/ It won't be easy...and I doubt there are any. There are usually just those few people in the crowd who are...you just have to find them. I've found a few myself. =) I'm in Medford. -.- The rest of oregon is rural get out there away from the city. Bend, Sunriver and Pendleton. None of them are near Portland though. Lake Oswego is probably pretty conservative too and it is near P-town. Lake oswego, West Lynn, Beaverton and Tigard are preferred living areas around Portland. Can be high priced however. Beaverton is home to Nike corp. Lake Oswego has a beautiful man made lake with upscale restaurants. Tigard offers more upscale jobs, very community oriented. West Lynn is a small, quaint community. ok....lake oswego and west linn are not "conservative and traditional" in the midwestern way you are thinking. they are "rich and proper" but that doesn't have anything to do with morals, values, or religion. when you say "midwestern values" i am going to assume you mean religious. and portland is one of the most "unchurched" areas of the entire US. the most conservative areas are in eastern oregon....but that doesn't really mean religion so much as politics. if you are in the west linn, lake oswego area...you can find some nice churches, there is a nice 4 square church, and Rolling Hills is ok as well. you'll find a LOT of churches are held in high schools and stuff because they don't have enough money to build buildings...but they still have great pastors. again try Milwaukie with a catholic church around the corner and a big community there living around you you just cant go wrong! |
