Others Yes - we like Portland OR but we prefer Salem OR I used to live in Eugene, but I've been to Portland a number of times, and it's a beautiful city for a city it's size. It's a growing city as well. It's population is around 560,000 up from 360,000 in the 1980s. The metro population is about 2.3 million which compares to cities like Pittsburgh PA 2.2 million Cincinnati 2.0 million and Denver 2.2 million. The Rose Parade is awesome . It's a huge parade through downtown Portland, with floats that are made of roses. Portland has an incredible park system, with many bike paths that span through miles of the city. The Winter climate can be quite cold and rainy, but rarely snowy. The Summer climate is beautiful , mostly low 80's and tolerable humidity. Although there are the occasional days that reach into the mid 90's. It's located in the of the Columbia Valley, at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers. It's primary suburbs are Gresham, Beaverton, Tigard , Hillsboro, and Vancouver WA which is right across the Columbia River from Portland.
