Thinking about moving to Corvallis, Oregon.? |
Travel Info We have a son who will be entering highschool in two years. Is Corvallis a family centered city? How are housing costs and are there many job opportunities. How's the weather? Are there many things for a teenager to do there? Travel Tips dito what the first person said. i have taught at Corvallis High School. They also have Crescent Valley High School...this is known as the "rich" school" and CHS is the older school. i went to college in corvallis and i loved it. high schoolers love it too...for the most part. you can get to eugene, portland, salem...but still have a small town atmosphere. job opportunties are through the univeristy, HP, and ag jobs. beyond that....not too much, but i'm sure there's something. i enjoy the weather there, it doesn't rain as much as is typical in oregon. close to the beach, many outdoor activities...it's very nice. Others Corvallis is a college town and relatively expensive due to Hewlett Packard's facility. Oregon State University has a very great Engineering program hence why HP chose this area. Corvallis is also semi-rural so OSU also has a great Agriculture program. Corvallis is a good place to grow up and a clean environment. It's 90 minutes to the City of Portland, so one can enjoy the culture of Portland on the weekends, etc. Corvallis is nice. Go to www.realtor.com to check out housing prices and www.weather.com to know how often it rains. I hope you like cold rain and don't mind cloudy days, especially if you're from a sunny area. Best wishes. Corvallis is a small college town. The area is mostly supplied by the farmland and agriculture. The college offers work as well. Housing and the cost of living are high, compared to other cities of it's size. Things for teens? No, I think they forgot that part during city planning. The only activity I've seen there is a skate park, near downtown. And the college, for concerts, and games, other than that, the whole family could get bored, quickly. I almost considered living there, so glad I didn't. I found my utopia though, about a hundred miles south. |
