Moving to Portland?

Travel Info
My husband and I are thinking of moving to Portland from Dallas, Tx. I am trying to find houses on realtor.com, but it seems that even paying $100,000 more, gets you less than we could get here. Am I just looking in the wrong places? Are all houses in portland vinyl siding, or is there a place to get a well-priced newer brick house?

Travel Tips
Portland real estate is much more expensive than Texas. As far as the brick goes, it isn't that popular in the Northwest, but the houses you are looking at probably have wood siding, not vinyl.

Housing in Portland is ridiculous. Figure at least $400k and that's not for anything all that nice. You'll have to live further out to find something really nice for less than that amount of money.

Brick homes are actually coming back BUT to find a newer brick home, you're looking at $500-900k, seriously. And most of the new brick homes are a brick fa莽ade in the front, not necessarily brick all over. Almost anything new and brick that's not too far out is $400k+. And good luck finding it for under $600k. They are there, but hard to find. Most of the homes in Portland are a mix of vinyl, wood, hardiplank and some stucco but stucco isn't a good type of home for this area with all the rain.

We've been looking to move just in our area and we can get $450k for our house but to find anything that's simply comparable is at least $550k.
Because of all of the people from California coming up to Portland, it's causing the prices to go up. The average price for a decent house in Portland is around $400k. One thing you might want to look into if you don't have any kids is buying two bedroom condos downtown. I know it might seem weird, but they are building A LOT of new high rises and the places are beautiful. The price would be around $400k but it would be very nice. All that aside, Portland really is a hidden gem.
this town is one of the best places to move to, however, it has also become the most expensive. I know my friends from arkansa went back home cause they couldn't afford to live here. there really isn't anything in the 100K range in portland, you can try troutdale gresham forrest grove cornelius. you may have better luck.
DON'T GIVE UP!!! My family and I moved out here from N.C. a year ago last Feb, and we had nothing. I moved out here with my dog and my car and all I could carry. We bought a manufactured home in Fairview, about 38,000, 10 years old, but housing is very expensive here, but it is absolutely worth it. I have lived in 7 states including Oregon, and I will not live anywhere else...keep trying, you cannot imagine how amazing it is here...also, I think the housing market is cooling, prices in my opinion are currently inflated, but the bubble will burst at some point...
