Is there a bus or easy/inexpensive public transportation to get from Portland to Ashland Oregon? |
Travel Info Is there a bus or easy/inexpensive public transportation to get from Portland to Ashland Oregon? Travel Tips Greyhound is about your best bet. You can sometimes get an express bus from Portland to Eugene, that would help some, then a regular bus on to Ashland. You could also take Amtrak (train) from Portland to Eugene, and then Greyhound to Ashland, but that would require a taxi ride from the train station to the bus depot in Eugene. http://www.greyhound.com Others The most inexpensive commercial transportation is Greyhound. You can take a bus to Medford and use the Rogue Valley Transit District to get to Ashland. You might also check http://portland.craigslist.org/rid/... for Portland rideshare opportunities. There's quite a few Southern Oregon University students who trek up and down Interstate 5 on the weekends. If you're willing to help pay for gas, the trip will be faster than taking a bus. Have a safe trip. http://www.greyhound.com/ http://www.rvtd.org/ http://portland.craigslist.org/rid/... greyhound probably doesn't go to Ashland...try Medford and then mapquest the distance from Medford to Ashland (maybe 20 miles) Drive would probably take 6 hours at the speed limit and a few breaks along the way. Yes, Ashland,OR is not always found on travel websites as it is a suburb of Medford. The local transit system in Medford (RVTA) provides local service between Medford and Ashland all day. As for service from Portland you could use Greyhound but they are the pits! Try Amtrak to Eugene and an Oregon Coachways thruway bus connection from there. Amtrak also has a direct thruway bus to California from Ashland as well. www.amtrak.com www.ocwcoachways.com I see you went to the website, but you might have to call greyhound since some small towns on their route have at least one stop. They tend to look like a normal bus stop sign on a corner. You may have to order your ticket over the phone and have them mail it to you to board or go to a bigger city and purchase the ticket in person. I do believe there is a stop in Ashland since it does have the biggest shakespear festival on the west coast or maybe it would have to be medford. You may just have to find a ride to medford to jump on the bus. good luck in your journey!! |
