portland so i want to know how is downtown area there ? is it good place to live ? is it safe? also i want to know about the condos aroud the downtown or psu ? i like to live in a calm place to too crowd so what do u think also living in vancouver wa and come study in psu does it work? is there bus or train from vancouver wa to portland downtown i will be a full time student and my major is mechanical engineering

Travel Tips
woah, i'm actualy kinda surprised at this response above, considering psu has one of the best computer science depatments in the country? people come from all over the world. Thier international business program is very competitive. OSU is good for science majors, but corvalis? i suppose? but really it's way out in the country and the whole town is centered around the university, it's a different experience. You might want to check out klamath falls? OIT? That's the engineering school, although Klamath Falls is waaaay out there it is beautiful. PSU is great for working adult, it is centered down town portland. the housing around there is relatively cheap to accomadate students. Portland is a beautiful laid back city. I think you'd be really happy. I wouldn't do that commute, vancouver although cheaper is really hard to get to and from if your not driving. you'd almost be better off going toward the west side along the max if you didn't want to live right down town. It's safe, as cities go? I've lived in tokyo hongkong LA, Seattle, this is by far the best city i've been in.

Lived in Oregon most of my life and I attended OSU and UofO but had many friends who went to school at PSU.

PSU is a below average school. I take it you are not from Oregon, but if you can, OSU (Corvallis) is better choice for your engineering program. Univeristy of Portland and Lewis and Clark are both private universities but provide better education than PSU (all in Portland Area). Portland is a fairly safe city, and lots to do..... just stay on the PSU side of the river, once you go over the bridge, you may find yourself in an uglier part of town, still nothing like you would find in LA or NY but you never know.

Its not advisable to commute from Vancouver to PSU its quite far bout 45minutes on a good day depending on traffic. There are buses and trains but if you have to, might as well go to school in Washington like UPS or UW. If you are concerned with cost of living in Portland, don't live downtown. Live on the Southeast or Northeast of Portland. you can find nicer places there that won't burn a whole in your pocket.

Overall, for the sub-quality education you gain from PSU, cost of living and other expenses; its not a good choice.

Good Luck!
