Planning on a 1 night trip to portland from Seattle.? |
Travel Info Where can I find a decent accomodation(have a 2 yr kid) and what are the must see's in Portland. Also, we are planning to come during the memorial day weekend..will it be worthwhile if we postpone it by a week just to see the rose festival? Travel Tips You should stay in Southwest/Downtown Portland closer to Portland State and the Keller Auditorium. It's a nice area that would be a little more family-friendly but still has the excitement of "downtown." If you have a two year old, he/she might like the Portland Children's Museum. I have attached the link. Other must sees include the Washington Park Rose Garden. It's absolutely gorgeous and roses are in season right now! The Marriott on the riverfront is a nice hotel and it's probably a nice middle-point between the museum and the rose garden plus your downtown and close to everything. OMSI is right across the river from the hotel and that's a great place to take small children too plus kids love the submarine. Portlandia is the second largest copper statue in the U.S. next to the Statue of Liberty and she is in downtown/southwest also. Have fun! Oh yeah, don't come during Rose Festival. It's too crowded and you will be afraid you will lose your 2-year-old in all the ruckus. When I was little my parents wouldn't take me because of the crazy crowds, however the fireworks and military ships are pretty cool. I still have fond memories of the Junior Rose Parade. It's the smaller one that goes down Sandy Blvd., not the big one downtown. Wait for the Rose festival. The Hilton dwtwn is very reasonable. If you have the entertainment card, it's have price. Unlike other hotels they actually give you 1/2 off the regular rate; not some jacked up rack rate. You will be able to walk to all the festivities. |
