Considering moving to Hillsboro/Portland, OR? |
Travel Info My family is considering moving from Las Vegas to Hillsboro, Oregon. We are looking for a suburban lifestyle with the benefits of country life with easy access to the city for jobs, shopping, etc. What are the people like? We are looking for friendlier neighbors than in Vegas. What is the job market like, cost of housing, etc. I am hoping to get a house on a decent size lot (.25-1.00 acre) with about +/- 2500 square foot home in a safe area. Any advice appreciated. Thanks. Travel Tips I live on the boarder of hillsboro and beaverton. it's not really the country any more it used to be about 15 years ago? you'd probably have to go out further for that, around cornelius and forrest grove for that kind of land it's going to be around, half a mill or so. you could try like vernonia, north plains? that's more probably what your thinking this area looks like. hillsboro on the whole is just pretty surburban. as is beaverton which is huge. Others I think you have the right idea. Try to get as far away from the heart of Portland as possible. Portland tends to have a lot of liberals who live in the city, so I wouldn't want to be around them. Portland screws up the beautiful state of Oregon, as far as I'm concerned. If you could possibly move to the southern part of the state or over by the coast, you'd be better off. Portland is a great place to live. I grew up on the other side of the river in Vancouver, WA and the city is awsome. I live in Vegas now, so i can give you a pretty good comparison. The people are MUCH friendlier in Portland, and the traffic is excellent for a decent size city. The schools there are fantastic and the air and country are also great. The job market is probably a little slower just because its a smaller city but you shouldn't have any trouble finding work if your qualified and are a go getter. The cost of housing is a little higher in some parts but its still very affordable. I wish that my job would allow me to still live in the Portland area, i miss it very much. You'll love it. |
