Travel Info I am going to Portland Oregon next week what should I do and see! THANKS? Travel Tips Speaking of books like the last person, POWELL'S! Best book store on the planet. Period. Also, take in a McMenamins. The company has around 15 brewpubs in the Portland area. Source(s): http://www.powells.com/ http://www.mcmenamins.com/ Other Travel Tips Definitely Powell's Books, if you like bookstores! If you like nice shops & trendy eats, make sure to go to "23rd" (NW 23rd/21st area). Hawthorne District (Hawthorne Blvd. from East 12th up to Mt. Tabor) is good for typical Portland people-watching/shopping/eatin... Go to Saturday Market (downtown, under the Burnside Bridge, west side) for great art & craft shopping and people-watching. Old Town and Pearl District are fun at night for trendy clubs/restaurants/galleries(ge... area of West Burnside and 3rd up to 14th). I always recommend City Liquidators (under the Morisson Bridge, east side) for eclectic furniture & doodad shopping & across from there is a restaurant called Montage for eclectic eating! (it's on the corner with just an "M" on the door) OMSI is good if you have kids or are a kid at heart (a big interactive science museum on the East Riverfront). Washington Park is nice for kicking back. If you like antique shopping, go to Sellwood. Another small antiques/shopping/eating/drink... area is the Hollywood District (Sandy Blvd. & the East 40s). If you drink, definitely check out a few McMenimins (I think the best one is Kennedy School!). If you have transportation, I would also suggest driving out to "The Gorge" and seeing Multnomah Falls. Just take I-84 West about 30 minutes from downtown & left exit at the Falls... or if you have more time you could make it to the coast (straight shot West on US26) or Mt. Hood (East on US26 - ask for directions) in an hour. Both defintiely worth the trip! If you have time to drive closer to 2 hours, I would suggest a trip up to WA to see Mt. St. Helens volcano observatory/museum, or to Astoria where they filmed Goonies (@ the NW tip of Oregon). Hope that helps!! Have a good trip! grew up there! OMSI! or the zoo, or Saturday Market.... oregon zoo, omsi, loyd center, waterfront, saturday market, check out downtown, ride the max in fairless square, pioneer square, so much stuff to do, I couldn't name it all |
