What's it REALLY like to live in the Portland, OR area?

Travel Info
Good schools? Is it safe? Good place for a young family? Thanks!!

Travel Tips
It's a pretty safe city! Pretty nice weather. You got sprinkles in the spring a little snow in the winter sometimes. It's a nice city all in all. A great place to raise a family. I recommend Oregon City they have new houses popping up everywhere!

I wouldn't let my kids go to school there..unless it was a private school ..Id go with like scappoose or smaller community and commute.. for kids

Portland would probably be as good or better than most bigger cities otherwise
I lived in So Calif most of my life and LOVE it here. The weather is generally mild though it does rain here more than Calif. BUT that is why it is so green and clean! Traffic is generally only bad when there are accidents or during rush hour. The rest of the time it is good for the most part. The people are very nice and friendly. I have lived here 8 years now and have no interest in living anywhere else. The jobn market however is not good and the housing market it climbing due to so many people moving here but it is still far more affordable than California and Seattle (where I also lived). Most of the areas are safe. I live southwest of Portland in the Beaverton/Hillsboro area and it is very nice there. NW Portland has too much crime so steer clear from there.
