Beautiful place to visit. I have family out there and it is nice having the mountians, beach and lakes. Very green. One of the best places to go if you really like outdoor activities.

there are acres and acres of trees. if you wonder where all the trees in california went, they went to oregon. it's a beautiful state! very pure and clean!
Oregon is a great state. On the west side of the Cascade mountain range you have lush forests and rain in the winter. On the east side of the Cascade mountains, you have the high desert and lava beds. Traveling further east, you get to the Wallowa mountains, the Blue mountains, and more. The Ochoco Forest is in the east/central part of the state, and in the Southeast corner is Steens Mountain, a mountain that was formed very quickly by a series of eruptions. Of course, the coast is on the west side of the state and in Oregon, the entire coast line is public. There are no private beaches. Some places have private access to the beach, but the beach is public. Politically, it's not super liberal as a state, but is more libertarian. We have legalized doctor assisted suicide, the only state in the country to have that, medical marijuana, and no state sales tax. People here are sort of 'keep the government out of my life' - Oregonians like their guns and their weed. One interesting thing is that in Oregon, you cannot pump your own gas. It is illegal to do so and you must have an attendant pump your gas.
The cost of living isn't bad compared to other west coast cities. I have been living on a fixed income of $50,000 a year with my wife, son and my teenage brother and we are living a comfortable fairly luxourious life. A lot of jobs are accesible by bus or train.
