Travel Tips
I have been to Portugal time and time again. The problem you have is that you have never experienced heat over holiday.

Bring drafty clothes, often white, such as blouses.
White clothes will keep the heat away, wear lots of sun cream.
Go swimming every chance you have, and stay under a parasol if necessary.
Keep out the sun from 11am - 3pm.
NEVER ever wear black or very dark clothes. It will soak up the sun and will always have you boiling.

Remember to relax and have fun - holidays are meant for smiling!!!

I used to live in Portugal.
Your problem is that you are not use to the hot weather
So you should bring
Baggy Clothes
Hats
And Things like that!
In Portugal in Summer it is around 20oc
Take light clothes, avoid dark colours and always wear a cap and sunglasses when outdoors - and don't forget factor 30+ sunblock. Long exposure to the sun is very dangerous especially for someone who is not used to a hot climate. Keep water handy, to avoid getting dehydrated. Drink water as much as possible. But after all these advices - I wish you a pleasant time!
It all depends to which region of Portugal you're going, Lisbon can be hot in summer, it gets to temperatures fo 35, not always of course, i think the average is 28.
There's also the south, the closer to Spain the hotter it gets, the good part is that you have the beach nearby so the cool air with the hot sun makes it perfect to go to the beach! (the water is really cold!! )
And to the northern part, i can't tell, i've never been there!!
but well enjoy portugal, its awsome!!
have a nice trip and drive safely!
