You'd best go over more towards the west - there is a fishing village called Alvor which has the most delightful restaurants where you can sit outside and watch the sun go down. It's not too big a place either yet there is enough to see. The people there are ever so friendly and the food is great. We've been there twice and visited places like Lagos and Portimao, etc. The beach there is so long and sandy and you have the pick of where to sit. The beach at Praia da Rocha is fantastic too although slightly bigger than Alvor but certainly not as big as places like Albufeira. I certainly recommend it.

One of the nicest hotels there is Hotel Pestana Delfim or further over in Praia da Vau is a fantastic hotel called Vitor's Plaza which is wonderful for kids. I absolutely highly recommend Vitor's Plaza, we had a glorious two weeks there, it was clean, food was fantastic and it was out on its own with no surrounding hotels. West is best! Enjoy!

Club Praia Oura in Albafuira is well organised, right on the beach and just off the Strip. 3 sites, Main hotel, K Block and the apartments. Big pool and loads of grounds, free sunbeds and umbrellas at the pool.

I liked Club Praia Oura but it would not be to everyone's place. The timeshare touts can be a pain. Just say 'No'.
We like Albafuira Town and all its restaurants. The locals are really friendly. Look at www.tripadvisor.com
When we go to the Algarve we hire a villa for a week.It is called the Villa Gemini and it is on the outskirts of Guia near Albufeira. It's set in a vineyard and the walk home after a meal at one of the excellent restaurants in Guia is great.
Far enough from the town for peace and near enough to walk to if you fancy a drink.
prai de luz is beatifull, stayed there year after year. it has a bit of everything new and old, villas, appartments, clubs reastuarants, clubs and good access to other places. beaches, shops, i could go on and on
