Travel Tips
Portugal is a country worth visiting.
- It is full of history, it was the first country in Europe to have its boundaries defined. You can visit museums, art galleries, monasteries, ancient towns like Valenca (by the Spanish border), Reguengos de Monsaraz in Alentejo. This town is very touristic, as it is a medieval town that literally stopped in time.
- Great gastronomy (Francesinhas, feijoada, sarrabulho, cod pataniscas, alheiras, piglet, etc)
- Portuguese wine is considered to be one of the best in the world.
- Nice people
- Great, sunny beaches in Algarve (busier) and the coast of Alentejo (more peaceful)
- Lovely landscapes (mostly in the north, for example Serra do Geres)
- If you like big cities you can visit Lisbon (the capital), and here you can visit monuments, like: 'Padrao dos Descobrimentos', churches, Belem Tower, Jeronimos Monastery, which has the unique artistic movement called 'Manuelino', the longest bridge in Europe - Vasco da Gama bridge, etc. In Lisbon don't forget to eat the famous 'pasteis de Belem' in Belem, they are delicious. You can visit Porto (Oporto) which is the second biggest town, and there you can visit: Clerigos Tower and church, many churches, The Cathedral, the bridge made by Eiffel Tower - Luis I bridge, the biggest concrete arch in Europe - Arrabida bridge, the lovely landscape of Ribeira and Foz, several museums, art galleries, drink some Port wine in 'Solar do vinho do Porto', etc. In this town you can eat the famous 'Francesinha', in the restaurant where is was invented - Regaleira, and you should eat some 'Poveiros' (it is a small cake made with eggs, cream, and puff pastry) in 'Imperio', it is a shop that sells cakes, pastry, etc, it is located in downtown.
If you like ancient history I recommend you to visit Tomar. It was founded as head-quarters of the Knights Templar in Portugal in the 12th century.
- The Almourol Castle, which is not very far from Tomar.

- Alcoba莽a, and the tragic story of King Peter I and Ines de Castro. It's very similar to Romeu and Juliet, but this one was real and more tragic.
- Monastery of Batalha.
- One of my favourite towns is Viseu, it is beautiful, peaceful and once again full of history, nice people, landscape...
There's so much to visit in Portugal, but I recommend you to rent a car and get the proper information of what you want to visit, otherwise you won't appreciate this lovely country.
It all depends on what you want to visit. Source(s): Visited the country top to bottom, and still have so much to visit

Portugal is definitely worth visiting. It has a long history as a colonizing nation and was responsible for a lot of the talent that discovered and mapped the New World.

I visited Lisbon a few times and loved it. The city has a distinct old-world feeling that is different from anywhere else I visited in Europe. There are plenty of attractions in Lisbon itself, but many people also head south to the beaches on the south coast.

A lot of people interested in wine and port like to visit for that reason. Have fun!
Hi! Yes it is! Portugal is very unique and is one of the oldest countries in all of Europe! It became a country in 1134!
