We are a depressed country with a pretensely left wing fascist government. Be wise and stay in the States. Or don't say I didn't warn...

EDIT: thumbs down, huh? It's amazing just how people will refuse to listen to the truths from those who know them closely!

EDIT: just about Krav Maga's post: more right wing governments before this supposedly "democratic" government, never had the nerve (and/or social blindness) to take some of the measures these guys have taken. Furthermore, what do you really mean by a stronger right wing government? Making the people even poorer? Depressing the economy even further? I tell you, you must be very young still and have no idea what it's like to have to make do with your salary and the rising cost of life or else you must be one of the exploiters. Finally, comparing the parasites that rule us with people like Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton is so damn silly I have no words to express how it makes me want to vomit.

Im really not sure but I also want to do the same thing. My family is from Faial, Azores and i have been there many times and love it. I actually just got back 2 weeks ago from a 3 week trip and looked into buying a resturaunt there. A lot of people think i am crazy but its my dream! Good luck and i hope you find out how to get there!
To get a job you should start looking in one of the 2/3 main websites:
http://www.net-empregos.com/
http://expressoemprego.clix.pt/...
http://empregos.online.pt/
Send some resumes, and wait.
About the documentation to enter and live in Portugal, you should visit this website: http://www.sef.pt/portal/v10/en/aspx/pag...
It's the Servi莽os de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras website (Foreigners and Boarders Services - ?), from the Government. I guess they are the best way to get your answers.
Hi! Go to your local Portuguese embassy and ask them for info. Getting a job is hard or easy, depending on what area of expertice you work in. a plus is to know to speak and write in portuguese.
to find out more about Portugal go to my blog!

Hi hun!
Jorge S has some point when he talks about our government, you know?
We have lots of people wanting jobs serving tables in restaurants and they have college degrees and all.
Finding a good job here is not easy, depending what is your area of expertise and ... what to you really know.
Getting Visa is easy, you can be provided for this in a day if... you have means of support, that means a job.
No bank would give you a Visa card if you have no job.
Getting insurance is easy too, since you pay the bill.
I'm missing data here. Don't know in wich area you want to work or where do you wanna live.
Life in the big cities is hard because prices are more expensive and you pay a lot for an apartment.
Maybe if you tell us a bit more...
Starting with the job, I don't think it is too hard to find job in Portugal (many will disagree...). If you have graduated ( means you have some knowledge) and if are good at whatever is that you do, you will get a job. You just need some will power and dedication.
It is harder to find a job related with arts, history, literature,... than to have one related with science and engineering. Although we have a high unemployment rate I believe it is mainly due to lack of knowledge from your population (it also applies to people with graduation in crappy Universities) .

The websites suggested by yail are all good and valid but they are in Portuguese:
http://www.net-empregos.com/
http://expressoemprego.clix.pt/......
http://empregos.online.pt/

The documentation site suggested is also probably the best: http://www.sef.pt/portal/v10/en/aspx/pag...

As for the government some answers say it is to autocratic and dictatorship. I also don't agree. Our government is similar to the US Democratic Party. For me the Portuguese government is trying to implement some good measures but they are only conceptually good. It lacks the toughness that is given by a more right winged party. So it is not bad but could be better if they turn more to the right.

Hope you can achieve your goal.
