Do you need a Visa to travel to portugal (lisbon)? |
Travel Info I am traveling there soon and many people I know have been saying you need one. Is this true? Travel Tips Who requires a visa? For stays of up to 90 days, a visa may not be required to study in Portugal (A tourist visa may be required, depending on nationality). For stays of over 90 days, a student visa may be required. Additional information a) Citizens of the European Union, Switzerland, Andorra, Liechtenstein and Malta require an Identity Card in order to gain entry into Portugal b) For stays of up to 90 days visa is not required for: 1) nationals referred to in the chart and under passport exemptions above; 2) nationals of Andorra, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, El Salvador, Estonia, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong (SAR), Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Korea (Rep), Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Macau (SAR), Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Poland, Romania, San Marino, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Switzerland, Uruguay, Vatican City and Venezuela; 3) transit passengers continuing their journey by the same or first connecting aircraft, provided holding onward or return documentation and not leaving the airport. However, nationals of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Congo (Dem Rep), Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Liberia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Somalia and Sri Lanka always require a transit visa, even when not leaving the airport transit area; contact the Consulate (or Consular section at Embassy) for details. c) Citizens of nations that are not mentioned above require both a passport and a visa PASSPORT Passport valid for up to 6 months (depending on nationality) required by all except EU nationals and nationals of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Malta, Norway and Switzerland holding valid national ID cards. Note: (a) Passport validity depends on nationality; for nationals of UK, the passport must be valid for the duration of the stay in Portugal. (b) It is advisable to have a return ticket, but not obligatory. If a visitor is not in possession of a return ticket, proof of sufficient means of support may be required. What documents will be required? Depending on nationality and duration of stay, some or all of the following may be required: Passport valid for 3 months after date of return and with a least one blank visa page Completed application form One colour passport size photograph Copy of itinerary with confirmed reservation or acceptance letter Proof of departure arrangements Proof of sufficient means of support Proof of health insurance coverage Tourism visa: Passport or official travel documents accepted by Schengen countries, valid for at least 3 months longer than the validity of the visa, with blank page for attachment of visa sticker. Application form. 1 passport-size photo. Proof of purpose of visit in the form of an official letter of invitation from host or business partner, provisional ticket booking and hotel booking where appropriate. Proof of sufficient funds and medical insurance may also be required. (f) Fee (payable in cash, by postal order or by cheque). For postal applications, a large self-addressed envelope stamped for registered or recorded delivery. Business visa: Letter from employer or, if self-employed, from solicitor, accountant, bank manager or local Chamber of Commerce stating purpose and duration of the visit. References may also be required. Time required to issue visa: 5-14 days for tourist visa. Allow up to 2-3 months for student visa. What is the cost of a visa? 25 Euro to 170 Euro for short-term visas. Note: A Schengen visa will be issued free of charge to the spouse and children of an EU national, upon presentation of the original marriage certificate and a valid EU passport. For children, original full birth certificates are required. A small charge is made for the visa sticker. How long is the visa valid for? A short-term visa is valid for a total stay of up to 30 or 90 days (depending on visa), over the period of one year. A student visa is valid for the duration of the course of study. Other information: Minors travelling by themselves or with only one custodian need to contact the Embassy or Consulate for further requirements. Travellers visiting just one Schengen country should apply to the Consulate of that country; travellers visiting more than one Schengen country should apply to the Consulate of the country chosen as the main destination or the country they will enter first (if they have no main destination). You don't need a Visa if you are USA citizen, just a not-expired passport ( should be at least 6 month before expiration date). If you have a Green Card you do need visa + valid passport of the country you are born in. Depends on your nationality. yeah, it depends on where you're coming from.. we went to spain for a week before we went to lisbon so we didn't need one...
