Has anyone been to the Azore Islands off the coast of Portugal? |
Travel Info I went to Portugal last year but did not make it to these islands and would love to go. They look amazing with blue lagoons. Travel Tips Yes I Have been there twice the Last time many years ago when I was in my teens. My father is Orginally from Fayal. I spent part of July and August there. Wonderful Place definetly go. It was like this unspoiled place that toursits had not discovered in great numbers. Beautiful scenery wonderful water turqoise in color I spotted dolphins while on a ferry to Sao Jorge I swam in the ocean everyday. The people are so friendly, I had people knocking on my door and start talking to me as if we were old friends. If you go and are in good shape a trek Hiking to the top of Pico especially on a clear day will allow wonderful views. In August on Fayal there is a Huge maritime festival called Semena de Mar (week of the Sea) which celebrates the main town Horta seafearing past with lots of food everyone from around the Island converges on this festival. Culminates in beautiful fireworks display at the end of the week. Festivals abound on all the Islands and Terceria has Bullfights. Overall wondeful experience! defiently go especially if you want a quiet laid back vacation. I have such fond memories, Im in college now planning to go back this summer when I study abroad in Spain. Others Hi! The Azores islands are just beautifull! Each one is differente and unique. Myself have been in these island while in the army. Have made several trips to: Sao Miguel, Faial, Corvo, Flores, Sao Jorge, Pico and Terceira (just missed 2 of them: Graciosa and Santa Maria). I was so impressed by their beauty that I must recommend to any nature lover: just go there at least once in a lifetime! You will not regret it! http://www.azores.dk/index.htm Yes I have!! I only know S茫o Miguel, which is the one with the blue lagoons. I want to go back too. The scenery is beautiful! Yes, years ago on a transatlantic crossing. Spent a week in Faial in May or June. Incredible place. You can see it for miles. There seems to be a permenant cloud sitting over the island, which is a strange sight at sea when the rest of the sky is blue & you're 1,000 miles from Portugal. Stunning scenary. Just don't swim! I made that mistake. I forgot I was in the North Atlantic! Just go! Experience it for yourself, because anything they may tell you will be completed surpassed by what you see and feel there! (Did you know that some say that the A莽ores islands are what is left of Atlantis? :) |
