Eating out on the algarve? |
Travel Info Eating out on the algarve? Travel Tips Really depends if you are in the more touristy areas of the Algarve(Albufeira or Portimao) or in rural areas (Loule) Food is very good with lots of seafood, Albufeira has lots of restaurants that have lunch specials that are about 7 Euros, for a complete lunch. With lots of choices to choose from. Most of them are in the Center around the square.. Guia is famous for its "chicken places"..delicious barbecued chicken..good for lunch or dinner.. Portimo has many good restaurants, but many are very touristy. You can tell which ones cater to tourists..stay away...Pork, fish and chicken are especially good in Portugal...Incidentally, I have been in Portugal more than 65 times and have never had a bad meal...Many of the smaller villages on the water have lovely little seaside bistros..with great fish..or just snacks..Bizarro is in Albufeira..high up above the beach, near Rocamar Hotel, they serve light breakfasts and lunches(No dinner) with the best view you have ever seen...However, Albufeira is being "torn up" and "redone" and won t be finished until possibly late May or June...quite a mess now.. Others if you stay in a non turistic area (they exist in the Algarve) you will find in every village a cantina where you can find local food. Sometimes very good and always cheap. I have been in one where the lady cook showed us every day dozens of cook books to find out what we liked. I must admit the average weight of our group went up with 5,6% experience |
