We are moving to Portugal. Should we take our favorite furniture or buy new in Lisbon? |
Travel Info We have a teak sideboard , an oak table and our beds. We won't get much selling them and I'm afraid they will be expensive to replace in Portugal. It will cost us about $7,000CAN. to have everything shipped. If the furniture is similarily priced and there is a good selection I will part with what I have. Any advice appreciated. Travel Tips new home, new country, new style, new life, i say new furniture! Others Start again when you're over there. Give it to family in friends in Canada. I think you should take them. First is this a permanent move? If this is a temporary move (even if a few years), is there some place "safe" you can store your furniture rather than a storage facility, such as a relative's attic, so you do not have to move it back & forth. IIf this is a permanent move & any of the furniture you have now, doesn't hold any particular sentimental value, then by all means, get what you can out of it, save the shipping expensives & buy furniture when you get there. :-) I think you should give them away to friends or family that could use them and if not donate them to the people that have lots there homes in fire etc.. With the 7000$ you would spend to send them over to Portugal you can by new furniture.. My mother in law did the same.. It's much cheaper to buy new furniture in Portugal. With $7,000CAN you' ll buy the best "collection" of furniture. |
