What good places are there to visit in Lisbon, Portugal?

Travel Info
What places of interest are there in Lisbon and the surrounding area for holiday visitors?

Travel Tips
In Lisbon itself you should go up the hill to St. Jorge castle, that has a lovely view over the river and also over the city.
Also you should see the Tower of Belem and the Monastery of Jeronimos, that are wonderful monuments.
You can also see the Nations Park (Parque das na莽玫es) where the Expo 98 took place. Some pavillions are still open there, including the Oceanary.
If you like wildlife make sure you also go to the Zoo of Lisbon, sure!
Outside Lisbon I would suggest you a trip by train until Cascais, which is a lovely beach village. From there you can walk until Estoril (lovely, all near the seaside) back to Lisbon.
You can also take the train to Sintra village that is a lovely place, full of ancient castles. And I don't mean just stone in ruins castles (although there are some also like that), but beautiful preserved castles with furniture and all that inside. Make sure you go up the hill to Pena castle, one of the most beautiful ones!
I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time! :-)

me
walk up to the castle, thats always good for half a day. theres also the docks area where theres some decent restuarants and bars. take in a benfica game at the estadio de luz (stadium of light) or stroll around the jardim de botanico. lisbon is a quality city. so even if you've nothing to do just soak it up.

if you're really at a loose end theres a decent amusement arcade with bowling alley and dodgems by luz metro station. (in the shopping centre)

enjoy
sintra is nice, over the 5th october bridge has some great beaches, henesys is a good irish pub down the front. rato has some great little local coffee shops, Bairro Alto is the place for beer (go late , about midnight). caiscai (not spelt like that) is a nice town and good for golf (end of the line) . stay away from fado ... its noise and boring..... club Lux is where the pretty people go ... again starts at about 1-2am
Lisbon is a wonderful place to visit...
You can go to the castle and main church, to Ajuda Palace and Necessidades Palace or if you prefer to the numerous museums...
Parque das Na莽玫es is always a good choice if you like to walk and relax a litle...
Near by you have the Village of Sintra, a beatiful village with no modern constructions ans 2 beutiful palaces, Pena and the village palace...
hope it helps
