Looking to go for a quiet break in February, anybody been to Madeira? |
Travel Info quite fancy going to madeira anybody got any ideas of some nice accomodation there or any other quiet sunny resorts? thanks Travel Tips Living two years on the island I have noticed that, during the winter period, certain parts of the island there is more sun that other locations. It starts from Ponta do Sol (鈥淪un鈥檚 Point鈥?which it really does justice to its name) along the coast .... Madelena do Mar, Arco da Calheta, Calheta. Going more to the west 鈥?the quieter but also rougher it will be 鈥?Jardim do Mar, Paul do Mar, Faja da Ovelha, Ponta do Pargo. There are a lot of quintas, villas, casas in these areas that are available for holiday rental. I know a few that are very nice ... such as a quinta with several country houses surrounded by banana plantations and beautiful seascapes ... and very peaceful. The (friendly) owner does not have a website .... but I can send her telephone number and you could contact her. Also of other rural accommodations in the area. I do not agree with some of the other comments ... Nowadays more young people are going to Madeira. There are lot of activities such as walking, biking, surfing, paragliding, dancing ... and also beaches (Calheta beach for example). I hope this information can help you somewhat. Also you could try to check some websites about Madeira through the following links: http://del.icio.us/madeira http://madeira.eigenstart.nl/ http://www.madeirablog.eu/ Enjoy! Source(s): http://del.icio.us/madeira http://madeira.eigenstart.nl/ http://www.madeirablog.eu/ Other Travel Tips not sure about Madeira (sure its gorgeous) but im half portuguese so i can only recommend the continent Algarve is nice if you like beaches etc but i prefer Coimbra (more homely and cleaner fresh air etc) Hope you enjoy Portugal :) I have been to Madeira, it was soooo lovely, it is a quaint little place..... They have dry tobogganing?!?!?! you go up these hills and you can toboggan down the slopes really strange ..... I can't comment on hotels because I was on a cruise that stopped there but I would definitely go back, I don't think there is an awful lot to do so don't go for two weeks Ive heard there are a lot of old people that go there, so quiet it will be! Very mountainous. Stay in the capital Funchal. No beaches in Madeira so no children on holiday. We stayed at the Casino Hotel, (goes under some other name but is the only one with a casino), I can recommend it, this hotel is also well placed in Funchal. its quite cold in feb but getting there is a peice cake |
