you can drive with a British no plate in Portugal. it will cost you hell a lot to register in Portugal. you have to pay in thousands to register in Portugal. My Portuguese friend bought a car here and took it to Portugal and he spent a lot of money to register there.

I am busy going through the process.It is not an easy one,they r full of crap here,get in contact with ACAP,make sure you have all the documentation and if your specific car was not imported into Portugal before make sure you have the handbook of your car.Any modifications to the car will not be tolerated by MOT,I even had to write down the wheel and tyre size of my car.ACAP will send you to Alfandega(customs)The cars are very expensive here,in fact everything is nearly double the price compared to Spain.No wonder the Portuguese never smile and always ill mannerd.This country is truly backward in every aspect.Take a good tip from me,drive with British plates and you will save yourself a lot of money.If you do decide to go for it,do it yourself,There r many ripp-of-artists here,one tried to charge me 800 euros to do this!!I am still in the process,(no backward nationality will get the best of me!)BEST OF LUCK
