A continental platform is an area with both a continental shelf and a continental slope. A contintental shelf is the underwater section of a continent that extends to the continental slope, which is the land just before the ocean bottom.

The Azores are an archipelago of Portuguese islands. There are 17 islands: 9 major ones, and 8 small ones. They are about 930 miles west of Lisbon. Source(s): AMS glossary & wikipedia

I think you meant to write Continental Shelf. That is an area near Europe and America where the Atlantic Ocean is shallow.
