My friend and I want to go to Portugal for our hols? Any recommendations?

Travel Info
We will be travelling from Galway, Ireland (which isn't a prob as Galway are doing flights this summer),

I'm looking for hotel recommendations/self catering. I am early/mid thirties, she will be 40 at the end of the year. We are sociable creatures, enjoy a good night out, nice food, beaches, hotel with pool - I love sightseeing and activities. So we want something we can both enjoy. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks.

Travel Tips
You can try the apartment I stayed in during New Year鈥檚:

You will definitely find lots of choice at Praia da Rocha, Portim茫o in terms of restaurants, bars (including Irish!), beaches (large or with small rocky coves!).

Lots of sightseeing can be done near and around Praia da Rocha.
You can visit other nearby fishing towns such as Ferragudo, Alvor or go to the nearby mountains in Monchique (famous for it鈥檚 spa and excellent cuisine).

Behind Praia da Rocha you have Algarve鈥檚 2nd city, Portim茫o (after Faro) excellent for shopping or for a visit to the Cinema!

Have a great time! Source(s): Was there in the New Year! Sunbathe & saw stunning fireworks by the beach!

Ever heard of a travel agent?
My wife and i have been going to Portugal at least twce a year for past 19 years and love Portugal especially the Easern Algarve. We stay in Monte Gordo either in aparthotel or private apeartment. We do not visit July or August as much too busy, end MaY/early June, or September are good times to go..We love the resort and people here, there are miles of lovely sandy beaches ,some good restaraunts, but not many discos.Hotels i could recomend are Alcazar,Casablanca,Neptune,wit... pools and many others. Monte Gordo is 45mins by road from Faro airport.Taxi costs 47-50 Euros each way if travelling independently. Also Spain is very close,by short ferry.Seville and Gibraltar can be visited in 1 day by excursion coach, plus many other trips.including boat trip up the River Guidiana to Odiliete. There is a castle at Castro Marim, close by and a visit to Tavira can be very interesting.Hope you have a good holiday
A visit to Lisbon and nearby Sintra is a must. Lisbon is my favourite European capital city.
A visit to both of these cities in 2003.
iv been to portugal once and i think praia da rocha is fab it has a fantastic beach and is a short walk from potimao there is loads to do and see and the restaurants are just beautiful if you go just out of high season its the best as its more local i love it and am going back in 7 weeks lol i cant wait, the good hotels are the jupiter which is 5 star or if you fancy self catering there is the algarve mor apartments,it is the most beautiful part of the algarve and if you fly in to faro its an hours taxi ride fromthe airport and i think for the taxi it roughly costs about 70-100 euros im not sure cos my other half delt with the travel money lol but personally thats my choice but then again iv only been there once lol also if u walk into portimao you can always take the train into lagos for the day its fantastic anywayt enough of my rambling hope you enjoy your trip wherever you decide to go xx
