Does a baby need a passport to travel outside the US?

I am leaving for France, my hometown and I have a 2 and half month old baby. do I need a passport for my baby?

You mentioned that your hometown is in France. Is your baby American (at least by birthright) and French? Then you might consider getting two passports:
