Can Someone Give Me Some Info On Puerto Rico? |
Travel Info My husband and I are going to Puerto Rico in July for our honeymoon. Any suggestions on where we should stay and activities that aren't too outrageously expensive. Also I would like comments on good experiences that you've had. Thank you! Travel Tips Hi If you get chance try to rent a car, that way you can see the sights on your terms and not on a set time frame with a group tour. Most people will know English, especially in the tourist areas, but trying your hand at speaking Spanish looks good. If you do rent a car just bear in mind that driving is a little crazy, just keep your eyes on all your mirrors and you'll be fine. Challenging at first, but don't let that put you off. Places to Stay. Really depends on your budget, if you want to take a chance, try priceline.com (you can specify the star of the hotel and make a bid on the nightly rate). Or check out expedia or travelocity. Isla Verde or Condado are good choices Check out tripadvisor.com and search pierto rico. Gives a list of hotels and b&b's Places to see. Old San Juan - easily spend a few hours walking around here. It's a little hilly so maybe jump on the free trolley bus to El Morro (the fort) and work your way back down through the city. Plenty of places to eat and drink for all budgets. Try Breakfast at La Bombonera (one of the oldest establishments in the city) El Yunque (rainforest) plus spend the afternoon at Luquillo Beach Check out one of the grand hotels on a weekend evening and try your hand (feet) at some latin dancing. Ponce on the South coast for more Puerto Rican architecture Arecibo Observatory. The James Bond movie Golden Eye and also the Jodie Foster movie Contact were filmed there. There is also this: Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve (Tel:787-722-5882). I have not been, but I would like to (it sounds a cool place to visit). You can have an escorted tour through the reserve on an electric trolley, but you have to book in advance. The Rio camuy caves also There is plenty to do here. You might even want to consider a side trip to Vieques or Culebra (as I've heard the beaches are amazing) Try the local food stands and just enjoy everything that the island has to offer. Food wise, everything you can imagine. In condado area for seafood try Miro's, Ropa Vieja Grill for Cuban & Puerto Rican. In Old San Juan try The Parrot Club for Caribbean style or Tantra's for Indian cuisine Also check the online guides frommers.com, roughguide.com and visit-the-coqui.com Source(s): http://www.visit-the-coqui.com/home... http://www.frommers.com http://www.roughguide.com Other Travel Tips Any of the big name hotels in san juan are nice. visit the el yunque rain forest, really beautiful. take a tour of old san juan too. please note, take a tour guide with you to a lot of places. puerto rico is getting very busy and the roads can be difficult without native help. Someone can: These people specialize in answering your questions: Tour company: http://www.gotopuertorico.com/ Official government site: http://welcome.topuertorico.org/index.sh... Tourism and reserveations: http://www.puertorico.com/ Internet guide: http://escape.topuertorico.com/... Neat little intimate places to stay for your honeymoon: http://www.gotoparadores.com/ And, of course, the Wiki site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/tourism_in_... stay closer to San Juan if you like nitelife. Go to Vieques and/or Culebra. I was there a couple weeks back and we stayed @ the Parador Palmas De Lucia in Yabucoa. Nothing around there was open mon-wed after 6pm. Also (and I am sooo not kidding on this) be prepared for NO signs for anything on the highway, side streets etc-- getting anywhere is a nitemare. We went to Ponce one day to go to some Museums and we got to 1 and gave up on the rest, and apparently there is a boardwalk there with a lot of stuff to do never saw that either. We were a little taken a back by the dirty beaches we went to Luquillo and the beach was gorgeous but 1/2 of it was filled with trash - very disappointed. As for the El Yunque rainforest, don't waste you're time unless you are a hiker,it's several miles of the same thing over and over so if you want to save time drive up it for a bit and turn around it looks the same at the top :-) Bring lots of change they have tolls on the main hi-way 50 cents a pop, I think we spent $20 the week we were there. PR is beautiful it just needs more signs and more tourist friendly information . It is gorgeous. If you can drive or take transportation, I would suggest staying in Dorado(about 30 minutes from San Juan). You get much more for the $$. But in Dorado the Embassy Suites Dorado del Mar is amazing. You can get a suite w/ a balcony & living room & fride & microwave for $200. It has a beautiful pool & hottub & has its own beach & restaurants. It has its own bar w/ live salsa bands playing each night. Also go to El yunque rain forest- beautiful w/ waterfalls. Camuy caves are wonderous! La Parguera(near Ponce) has a biolumenesnt Bay. You take a boat ride out on water that glows at night. There are private beaches like culebra. Luquillo is told to be the most beautiful beach & Mona island is like the gallapagos Islands w/ sea turtles. Oh definitely visit El Morro(fort in San juan) & walk the beautiful colored streets of Viejo(old) san juan. People speak english in San Juan & other big towns. There is fishing, boating, scuba diving, snorkelling, jet skiing, any water activity u can imagine. You can horseback ride on the beach in isabella. Tour guides can take you to most major attractions. If you want to venture out rent a car at the airport & get a map. & the food is good. Try everything local. Locals travel from opposite ends of the island to eat it. Enjoy!! Oh & july is good- no hurricanes. http://www.embassysuitesdorado.com/... www.gotopuertorico.com www.orbitz.com |
