Travel Info Going to puerto Rico for a year with my company any good advice on what to avoid? Travel Tips Hi, Yes watch out for the scary comments on this site.... PR is the same as any major city in the states. It has its good areas and it has its not so good areas. There are areas with high crime and drug problems as there are areas in US states that have high crime and drug problems. I have been here for 8 months and have not felt threatened or in danger. One thing you will need to get used to is how the local drivers drive. They make there own rules and are fairly aggressive and do not use 'turn signals'. good luck with your move. It is a beautiful island but has some bad spots just like anywhere else. Stay away from La Perla near the Fort in San Juan. Go there and you're dead. Other than that, I had a great time met great people. Visit the rainforest on top of the island, eat the fresh donuts made on the roadside, eat Pinchos. Treat them with respect and you will recieve it back. If you are single, dating is completely different than stateside. Good luck and have fun. This is not only for puerto rico, but for all Latin America. Only drink bottled water. In your home filtrate the water or add chloride to it to deinfectate it. Always wash the fruits and vegetables before eating them. All meat cook it well. If you eat out do it in a good place like nice restaurants or chain restaurants. Do not eat in cheap little restaurants. If you go out to the country or the beach use sun protector and mosquito repellent If you present any signs of gastrointestinal disease go immediately to see a doctor.
