Who has been to Puerto Rico? How is it ? What ahould i do over there? Any suggestions? |
Travel Info I going there in two weeks. I want to see all i can Travel Tips I live here. If you are staying in the San Juan area prepare yourself of ALOT of traffic; Insane traffic. Just implemented are a 7% sales tax. Avoid walking the streets after 11:30pm and ALWAYS keep the doors of your car locked. Now with the GOOD: On the East: Isla Culebra has one of the best beaches in the world. El Yunque is part of the biggest rain forest in the Caribbean. El Morro and Old San Juan is a must. Plaza Las Americas is good for Shopping. South: Castillo Serralles is a dream, Isla Guilligan is cool, La Parguera has a fluorecent bay (go when there is no moon). West: Boqueron, Playa Santa and Buye are very good beaches. El Faro de Cabo Rojo is nice. Joyuda in Cabo Rojo has the BEST Sea Food you can eat (and cheapest in PR), I recommend, Tony's Rest, Tino's Rest and El Bohio. The Mayaguez Zoo is really nice. And Cappriccio Italian Restaurant in A帽asco is Awesome. You MUST have Sangria Fiddo and Brazo Gitano at Mayaguez. Rincon has good beaches for surffing and some good restaurants (ask around for empanadillas). North: Cavernas de Camuy. Arecibos Radar. Not much besides that. Other: Lares Ice Cream is kindda famous and Aibonito is known for its' rose gardens. Los Ba帽os Termales de Camuy is also popular. The night life has some pubs and clubs you can enjoy but ask the locals before you go about safety. And keep in mind EVERYTHING on the west side is cheaper than on the east. Don't ask me why, thats just how it is. HAVE FUN! Others ASk For DIRT CAKE At the restaurants ! If you get chance try to rent a car, that way you can see the sights on your terms and not on a set time frame with a group tour. Most people will know English, especially in the tourist areas, but trying your hand at speaking Spanish looks good. If you do rent a car just bear in mind that driving is a little crazy, just keep your eyes on all your mirrors and you'll be fine. Places to Stay. Really depends on your budget, if you want to take a chance, try priceline.com (you can specify the star of the hotel and make a bid on the nightly rate). Or check out expedia or travelocity. There are some great hotels overlooking the beach in the Condado area. Check out tripadvisor.com and search pierto rico. Gives a list of hotels and b&b's Places to see. Old San Juan - easily spend a few hours walking around here. It's a little hilly so maybe jump on the free trolley bus to El Morro (the fort) and work your way back down through the city. Plenty of places to eat and drink for all budgets. Try Breakfast at La Bombonera (one of the oldest establishments in the city) El Yunque (rainforest) plus spend the afternoon at Luquillo Beach Check out one of the grand hotels on a weekend evening and try your hand (feet) at some latin dancing. Ponce on the South coast for more Puerto Rican architecture Arecibo Observatory. The James Bond movie Golden Eye and also the Jodie Foster movie Contact were filmed there. There is also this: Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve (Tel:787-722-5882). I have not been, but I would like to (it sounds a cool place to visit). You can have an escorted tour through the reserve on an electric trolley, but you have to book in advance. There is plenty to do here. You might even want to consider a side trip to Vieques or Culebra (as I've heard the beaches are amazing) Try the local food stands and just enjoy everything that the island has to offer. Food wise, everything you can imagine. In condado area for seafood try Miro's (was there yesterday and it was superb). Explore, eating, sightseeing, sports, nightlife, etc. You can do anything, in any budget. Just plan well what you like, and do research or you can email me I can give you hints. Don't forget to visit the beaches of Luquillo, Aguadilla, Rincon, Cabo Rojo, Fajardo and Culebra my favorite one is Crash Boat on the western part of the island also drop by Plaza Las Americas the biggest mall in all of the caribbean.
