If I am born in Puerto Rico and My families background is West Indian does that mean that I am Mixed just one? |
Travel Info Cause West Indian are in the Carribean Sea and Puerto Rico is in the Carribean Sea as well and I am born in Puerto Rico but what am I? My Dad is Mixed but I dont know with what I just know its in da Carribean because my Grandmother is Very Very light and she has Some Black futures But i just want to know am I Mixed or just one. Cause what im thinking is you have to be born in Puerto Rico to be Puerto Rican cause if I have Kids My Background for them is that I was born in Puerto Rico Travel Tips Technically all puertoricans are mixed, because the first thing you learn in school is that we're the result of the combination of the three races, the Spanish, the African slaves, and the Taino indians. I see it like this, you have two options you either consider yourself from the place you were born on or you are what your parents are. That's why there are a lot of puertoricans artists that weren't actually born on Puerto Rico but since there parents are they consider themselves puertorican. And on other cases there are some that were born here but consider themselves what their family is like Mexican for example and not puertorican. You can say that you were just born in Puerto Rico but your background is another one if neither of your parents is puerto rican. But if you were born here and lived here and feel attached to the place then you can say that you are puerto rican Others If your father is mixed that would mean you too are mixed. Evidently, you don't feel Puerto Rican. Puerto Rico is a NATION, not a race. Puerto Ricans can be any color or from any ethnic group. You don't even have to be born here (eg Roy Brown or Tony Croatto, the singers, were not born here and are more Puerto Rican than many native born people). To be a Puerto Rican you have to feel that you are part of the Puerto Rican nation, share our culture and our values. Modified 1 year ago Why not being PUERTO RICAN is Great. But I agree wit Raimon. You really are messed up...well, I say that if you don't consider yourself a Puerto Rican, then you're not. If you don't consider yourself mixed, then you're not. Just be whatever you want to be. If you feel you're from the North Pole like Santa, then be that...be what you want to be and don't give it a lot of thought. |
