If I want to move from US to Puerto Rico, where is the best place to live.? |
Travel Info I want to live near the city, but not in it. How are the schools there? And what about the job market? How much is the rent there? Travel Tips Avoid the San Juan Metropolitan Area if you can: Too crowded, too much traffic (and too many rude drivers) and too much crime. I am originally from Puerto Rico and my last decade on the island I lived in Mayaguez on the west side. Nice university town where you will find all the conveniences of city life but much less crowded. And the beaches on the west side of Puerto Rico are the best. If I ever move back to Puerto Rico, that is where I want to live. As for schools... well... you have to choose well, I am ashamed to say that Puerto Rican public schools are consistently bad. I recommend you look for a nice private school. I could not tell you much about the job market. I left Puerto Rico precisely because the engineering job market was terrible. It all depends on what you do for a living. Be advised that the unemployment rate in PR is consistently higher than in the states. As for rent, yes indeed it is a lot cheaper. But choose wisely! Good luck! Others San Juan, went for a visit... breathtakingly beautiful......not sure about job market though the best city in america was voted seattle, although it rains its a great fit to live in Job market is difficult. Crime rate is high. Government is corrupt. Best area is in the country. San Juan is a good place to visit, but don't live there. The cities have the highest crime rates. Do your research first. I would try to have a job if possible before moving. Cost of living is more than on US mainland (in my opinion). Areas around San Juan are not cheap. Check out http://www.clasificadosonline.com/... for houses/apartments for rent / for sale. get hold of a map so that you can figure out the various cities (e.g. bayamon, guaynabo, carolina) Here you can also see what jobs are available Good luck http://www.clasificadosonline.com/... The southside of puerto rico (ex. Ponce, Salinas, Guayama, and Patillas) Looking for jobs is not all difficult Schools are ok. the best schools are technical schools. Crime Rate is basically the same as the US, all you have to know is not to trust anyone The rent is a lot cheaper than the US you can rent a house from 300$ to 900$. all you got to do is look in the newspaper and look around for houses for rent. DO NOT LIVE IN THE APARTMENTS THAT LOOK LIKE PROJECTS their really cheap but the crime in these apartments are high. The cities are beautiful, but you can always go to Ponce in the weekends. Its like living in Connecticut and going to New York to shop and see the city. |
