Besides the Bacardi distillery, what else should I visit in Puerto Rico? |
Travel Info ...yeah- I know, "the beach". It's an island....that's for all you smart-asses! Travel Tips If you are San Juan you can visit: * Old San Juan * San Felipe del Morro fortress (simply known as El Morro) * San Cristobal fort * La Fortaleza (governor's mansion; oldest executive mansion in the Americas) * Iglesia San Jose (third oldest church in the Americas) * Pablo Casals Museum * Condado (for shopping and nightlife) * Plaza Las Americas (largest shopping mall in Caribbean) Throughout the island: * The Luis Ferre Art Museum in Ponce (largest collection of renaissance art including Rembrandts in Caribbean) * El Yunque Rainforest (only rainforest in US Parks System) * Rio Camuy Caves (Camuy) * Arecibo Radio telescope (largest radio telescope in world) * Vieques Island (for great beaches) * Culebra Island (great beaches and great natural reserves) * Porta Coeli Church (San German) For the truly adventurous: * Mona Island (natural reserve between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic; you will need a permit to travel here) Others Without a doubt the mountains and rain forest. Me and some girlfriends went last summer.. Must see 1. Rio Camuy Cave Park.. this is nature at its best 2.Museo del Nino 3.sports bar/club Lupi's, fun atmosphere if your in your mid 20's-30's in San Juan and yes the distillery is cool too.. have fun try the Camuy Caverns (Tierra Adentro tour) will take you to do underground rapelling. The Flourocent bay in Vieques, the Observatory in Arecibo. Guilligans and Ballena Island. www.welcometopuertorico.org has many more spots. Firstly, I would recommend renting a car. That way you go do stuff on your time and not someone elses itineary. Plus if you go somewhere and you are not impressed you can move on straight away and are not stuck there until the tour decides to leave. With that in mind, driving is a little crazy, just keep your eyes on all your mirrors and you'll be fine. Places to see. Old San Juan - easily spend a few hours walking around here. It's a little hilly so maybe jump on the free trolley bus to El Morro (the fort) and work your way back down through the city. Plenty of places to eat and drink for all budgets. Try Breakfast at La Bombonera (one of the oldest establishments in the city) El Yunque (rainforest) plus spend the afternoon at Luquillo Beach Check out one of the grand hotels on a weekend evening and try your hand (feet) at some latin dancing. Ponce on the South coast for more Puerto Rican architecture Arecibo Observatory. The James Bond movie Golden Eye and also the Jodie Foster movie Contact were filmed there. Also check the online guides frommers.com, roughguide.com and visitthecoqui.wordpress.com Enjoy http://visitthecoqui.wordpress.com... old san juan |
