Travel Tips
I myself have been to Puerto Rico 3 times and every time i go i love it stay at EL CONDADO PLAZA HOTEL & CASINO. I love this hotel. this hotel has its own beach, an arcade for kids, a casino if u like to gamble , a bar across from the casino, and there is also live music on the lobby and casino levels in the hotel. When staying in this hotel you do not have to worry about taxi's as soon as you go out there are taxi's right in front of the hotel waiting for you. I never had a problem with catching a taxi there.

Good Luck and happy travels
If you are going to be here for a few days, you may be better off looking at hotels in the Condado / Isla Verda area (beachfront).

The only hotel I have personal experience with is the hotel El Convento (but this is in the center of Old San Juan).

I know people who continually come back to the Condado Plaza (and they do have a good breakfast buffet and nice pool area).

With a quick look on expedia for April you can get a 3 Star hotel for about $200-250 and the 4 Star San Juan Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino for between $250 - 300 (300 is for an ocean view room). If you like a gamble you could also use priceline.com and make a bid for a room based on the star rating of the hotel (downside, you can not pick the hotel on the area and star rating).

The advantage of being in one of the bigger hotels in the Condado / isla verde area is that you can easily visit the other big hotels in the area (for a change of scenery).

If you want to see some of the sights, you can get a taxi into Old San Juan (not very far) and stroll around.

For some of the other sights, you will probably need to do a tour (most hotels will offer something and you will be looking at about $50-60 to see El Yunque, Closer to $100 to see Ponce and somewhere in between to see the caves.

Check out tripadvisor (as someone else said) for other smaller hotels and frommers.com and roughguide.com for ideas of what to do. Also check out http://visitthecoqui.wordpress.com...
