Travel Info Do I need any sort of shot/vaccination before going, ie as in Montezuma's revenge? Travel Tips I don't think there are any shots or vacccinations which can prevent Montezuma's Revenge. The best advice is to drink only bottled water or water which you know has been purified. Ask for your drinks with "no ice" since the ice can make you sick if it's made from water which has not been purified. Some restaurants use "purified ice" which has been made from purified water. It doesn't hurt to ask. My favorite restaurant in Guadalajara used such ice, but it's better to avoid ice if you don't know. Also avoid eating fruits and vegetables from roadside stands because they can also make you sick if they've been washed with unpurified water. Good luck. Others I've been to Mexico (Cancun and Acapulco) and no shots are required. The best advice I can offer is not to drink the tap water, buy bottled and when ordering soda, make sure to ask for no ice. In general, I always bring PEPTO BISMOL tablets or Immodium just in case. They have hepititis there and many people spread it (especially in the food industry) without knowing it. I got Hepititis A & B vaccines before going. You never know who is going to give it to you, but I know that HEP A & B is usually transmitted through food. Good luck I was in Puerto Vallarta in August and no shots were needed. Most restaurants serve ice made from purified water; just make sure there's a hole in the center of the ice cubes. I ate yogurt everyday for 2 weeks before leaving to ensure "good" bacterial growth in my stomach, just in case. I also carried Imodium with me but never had to use it. I had a wonderful time and didn't get sick at all. As for fruit, don't eat anything unless you peel it yourself or you can watch as someone peels it for you; you don't want it dipped in water after it's been peeled. Have a great trip. |
