Want to hire a car independently from Puerto Vallarta? Any ideas?

I have no hotel booked, I just want to arrive at the airport and go wherever the car points. I want to use a local mexican car rental company rather than a multinational - anyone know of reputable Mexican car hire companies? (struggling to find much on the web).
