Going to Puerto Vallarta from U.S.- what should I expect in Mexico airport re rules? |
Travel Info Ride from airport to hotel, are there shuttles? What should I look out for? What should't I do as far as travel - taxi, walking around, tipping, exchange rate? Should I carry change and paper currency? Travel Tips One you will go through customs, next change money don't let anyone see your roll of bills, split your money up through your pants, shoes, etc that way if worst happens you don't lose all your money. Lots of people ready to take your money, so know one the exchange rate before you leave and change a small amount like $20-40 at airport bank, then go wherever you need. ATMs although costly, give you the best rate. Keep in mind all prices except those printed on menus or at major brand stores are negotiable. Taxis will charge you less if you barter down and threaten to walk away and you do. You will always find another taxi. Also, when it comes to food and parties go out of the main stream. Leave your hotel see the city. FYI best clubs, bars, restaurants are in the old downtown area. The tourist spots are nice but get old fast. For a good time go out, eat at street vendors, have fun. Just be mindful of your surroundings and try to blend in when you can. Oh and cops can be bought for 10-20 US but not federal soldiers, difference; if they have an M-14 don't try to by them. Source(s): I am a Latino, Half Mexican and Half Puerto Rican and have gone through Mexico many times about 20. Other Travel Tips Don't eat at Christine's. If you buy a beer make sure you see the guy open the can. Don't go to the bullfights (sucks). For god's sake don't eat any tomatoes, you'll be sick for months. You should bring pesos with you or change your dollars as soon as you get into the Mexican airport. You will find shuttles and taxis over PV's airport. Tipping rate > 10 to 15% ... depending on how well you were attended. PV is a safe city, so you can walk around even late at night. Police are constantly patrolling the streets. |
