Are there problems with tourism in Mexico since the recent elections? |
Travel Info Are there problems with tourism in Mexico since the recent elections? Travel Tips I just got back from Mexico a couple of days ago. I visited Mexico City, Oaxaca, & Chiapas. There are no problems with tourism. It's the busiest time regardless of what's going on. Mexico City though is a more crowded than usual. There are tarps and tents where people are camping out every day in the main plaza in the city which is called the Zocalo. Also there are hundreds of portable toilets throughout the Zocalo which is making the smell unbearable. The main street is called Reforma and that has been closed making it more difficult for Taxi driver's to get around. They will get you to where you need to go but it may take longer and cost you more money. If you're going to be somewhere other than Mexico city you should be fine, but if you are going to be in the city expect a few discrepencies. Others reverse tourism, from there to here... ~TheTruthHurts http://www.nkbphoto.com/forum From the little i have read about it says that the protests along with the drugs wars that are starting to happen more often are the leading causes of the decline in tourism in Mexico. Acalpuco one of the best tourism sites for Mexico has sadly become a haven for drug gangs who have their turf wars there. Just in Mexico City downtown, no taxi service, you need to walk. In Acapulco: caletilla beach poluted. Come to visit us. I don't know about the rest of Mexico, but Mazatlan has been very, very busy this tourist season. Hotels in mexico city have claimed losses around 23 million dollars a day because of protesters on the streets and disrupting businesses, many with signs blaming the tourists and using them as scapegoats, also the corrupt government has lost control of certain areas now run by drug lords, the loss of revenue because of all this will put more mexicans out of work which will result in more mexicans coming into the US illegally. |
