Surrounding towns near Puerto Vallarta?

I would like to visit some smaller towns inlad from Puerto Vallarta. Any suggestions to see culture and people? What's the best way to get there?? I love the beach, but want more culture while i'm there. any small town w/ shopping, true mexican culture, etc. would be great.

San Blas, etc that the others told you in their answers are not inland and are not surrounding towns and have lots of Americans living there. If you want culture then go where there are hardly any or no Whites or Gringos. In land surrounding towns are Las Plamas, San sabietian, Mascota, Talpa, Xatapa, etc. There are hundreds around and all can be excessed by local transportation ... regular BUS service. Its cheap, culture is great and people are friendly as long as you are friendly as well. If you want true Mexcian culture then go to Mascota and Talpa also go to Tomatlan. I would recommend these 3 places and while you explore these 3 places you will run into bunch of small towns in between. Good luck and have a safe and a enjoyable trip......... Later

Try Manzanillo! Nice palace. You can also try to go to Guadalajara, but it is like 2.5 hrs. drive
Go to Lo de Marcos which is about an hour north of PV. Stay at the El Caracol. Much smaller town, laid back, mostly Mexican, very nice people Your teens may get bored - depends. You can surf, snorkel, rent a panga. Rent a car or take a bus. It's all about fishing and agricultural so is more just a regular town. Very hot in July, August and September otherwise perfect. Caracol has a website which you can find online.
is 3 small towns with out fancy things just people San Blas, Ixtlan del rio and Tomatlan if you looking for more cultural events Guadalajara have all the things of the big cities , museums, restaurants,library, theatersetc. same for Colima and nayarit. is 3 very different cultures there...in the page of the government of Jalisco looking for the intro and then if you don麓t read spanish look for the english version (in the same page. good luck!)
