Traveling solo, Puerta Vallarta in June. Where to keep Passport & and cash while inbetween destinations? |
Travel Info Traveling single, attractive woman 15 days in June with duffel bag and back pack. Doing many eco-adventures up and down the coast. Will be using Traveling Taxi's. Where do I keep valuables? Passport, Cash, ATM card, Flight ticket home? Travel Tips A fanny pack says, "look at me, I have my valuables in here, rob me". I live in Mexico, take with only the money you need and leave the rest in your hotel safe deposit box. Protect your wallet by putting it in the front pocket or better yet, use a money belt. Don't wear good jewelry. I have traveled all over the world and have never been asked for a passport or visa except at immigration, never carry the originals with you, leave them in the safe deposit box with your return tickets. If you want, you can carry a copy of your visa with you. Also, never except food or drink for someone you don't there. There have been numerous incidents in Mexico where someone has accepted drugged food or drink and been robbed and in some cases, killed. Others This would probably be a good time for the fanny pack! If you are staying at a decent hotel, I would just lock up the passport in the safe (most hotels have one in every room). What I would do with the Cash is to split it up (half in your shoe, half in the safe, etc.) Another good idea is to make a copy of your passport, ATM card, etc.. incase they are stolen it will be easier to replace them. You are supposed to have your passport and/or visa on your person at all times while in another country! I always keep my cash in pocket or shoe! It's hard for someone to pick pocet your shoe! Flight ticket back home is always left in the hotel safe deposit box or a secure place on your person like an inside coat pocket. I have been to various areas of Mexico and you are pretty much safe if you stay on the main thourough fares, don't travel at night, and with others. Tiauana and Mexico City are two areas to avoid as they are crime stricken areas! Puerta Vallarta , Los Cabos, Cancun are all pretty safe areas. The Mexican government is very strict with the Mexicans in those areas. They are very restricted in their travel, especially in the hotels! The government wants to protect those areas as they produce a large portion of Mexico's income! Hello. As an avid traveller, and adventure tour guide for many years, I would suggest only one tried and tested method of keeping your valued documents safe while you travel. The money belt. (Not a fannypack) This excellent and very inexpensive little device has been used safely and effectivley for many years and has been engineered for tropical countries, from primarily breathable fabric, beacuse it is always against your skin. I have used a money belt all over the world. It is easy to get at if you need your money or documents, it is concealed beneath your pantline hidden away from theiving eyes, and it is not bulky or uncomfortable whatsoever. You can pick them up at basically any luggage or travel store. Thus being said, remeber that these items are not waterproof! They are however resistant to sweat and humidity . Hope this information finds you with an agreeable decision. World traveller, tour guide, travel show host |
