Where to get best exchange rate for Canadian (USD to CAD)?

Travel Info
I'm going to Montreal next week from San Francisco. Should I exchange it here in the US or should I wait until Canada? How can I get the best rates? Thanks!

Travel Tips
Go to a charter bank if you can find one. They give the best rates. I use my debt card and use an ATM machine to get money when Im in Ontario. The exchange occurs thru my own bank, and im not charged any extra fees either.

Others
Call your bank to find out what extra charges, if any, apply to foreign currency withdrawals from ATMs. Check whether your bank card is on the Cirrus or PLUS system. Use the corresponding ATM any one of the major banks:
Royal Bank of Canada (RBC Financial Group)
Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD Bank Financial Group)
Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank)
Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC)
Bank of Montreal (BMO Financial Group)
