Any nice places to visit in Quebec and what are the people like there? |
Travel Info I really like Canada, it's such a beautiful place full of opulence. I'm also in love with a French-Canadian. I would love to know more about French-Canadians, traditions, common expressions and things that they do and say for fun. I know they speak French and English, we speak French and English in my country too. Where I come from, we are multicultural and have different varieties of dishes; French, Aisn, African, European... Any advice or opinions just any info would be great! Travel Tips Hi Zara, I've spent a few years in Canada. Montreal and Quebec are both very elegant cities with lots of big city things to see and do. There's good skiing in the winter if you're into that. I don't know how your French is, but be prepared for a surprise even if it's good - I speak Parisienne French, and found Quebecois viryually incomprehensible. I am told it's the original French that used to be spoken in France before the Revolution in 1781 which somehow survived in Quebec. The people are very eclectic, I find. If you know French people, you'll find them not too different from them. But they have a dimension to them that's very un-European - I guess it's what happens when people live in a huge country where just about anything is possible. They seem far more relaxed and gregarious than the European French. Don't be surprised to find a lot of people who do not speak English. That's just as possible there. I don't know what country you're from, but let me guess: Mauritius? Lebanon? Just guessing. Anyway, whichever it is, you will find Canada very much the country of winter. That can be nice, as living there is very comfortable, but you can go for six months in a row without seeing anything green. That's what eventually made me move south (well, way south, I live in New Zealand). Advice-wise, I'd say - not really, Canada is one very easy country to get used to. No strange things in it. Just make sure you have a longterm plan of things to do when you get there, like education, career, all that, because life can get a bit quiet there otherwise. Oh, one thing: Summers are surprisingly hot and humid, and quite bug-ridden. If you have an aversion to either one, take the necessary precautions (bug spray, air conditioning). Bon voyage! Others Quebec is pretty nice. Visit Montreal and Quebec City. There are plenty of museums to gain the type of knowledge you are seeking. Quebec City is very nice, as is Montreal. Visit or stay at the Chateau Frontenac - it's beautiful - you won't regret it. In Quebec City, you can travel through the old part of town where cobble streets still exist and painters paint on the corner. It's our little piece of France. Have a good time if you come! Are you talking about Quebec (the province) or Quebec City? If you're talking about the province, then you *must* visit Montreal. Especially Vieux Montreal (old Montreal), the Biodome and the downtown Museums and cultural exhibits. Montreal has plenty of different cultures, so don't be afraid to explore the downtown area in search of unique restaurants. From what I read about you, you will really enjoy it. The french Canadian are a proud people. Quebec is charming and friendly. Enjoy. I'm married to a french man !
